I love country ham, end of story. If I didn't think the amount of salt would kill me I would eat country ham for every meal. Since it takes at least 6 months to salt cure a ham I decided to settle for smoking a ham.
A little deli I frequent in Maryland gave me the idea of smoking a precooking spiral sliced ham so I thought we'd give it a try.
We went to Sam's and picked up a ham, nothing special just a honey cured ham.
Heated the egg up to 225 and threw the ham on, didn't do anything to it besides take the wrapping off. I think the cook took about 4-5 hours, heated it up to about 145 degrees.
I suggest using hickory or apple wood chips, I used hickory. It was flat delicious. I'm not a huge ham lover, unless its country ham, but this was good I actually ate it for 2 days.
After the smoking I did add the honey glaze and threw it in the oven and followed the directions for the glaze.
This is by far the easiest and one of the tastiest meals I've smoked. If you're pressed for time you can always take the grill higher and follow the directions on the package and cook it at 10-15 minutes per pound.
