Weekly recap - April 13th

So I'm going to start posting weekly recaps to keep myself motivated. I'm in between training plans at the moment so I decided to lighten up on the running and do cross training in the meantime.

With that my buddy Michael turned me on to the Les Mills Combat training videos, they could be the most fun I've ever had working out to a video. I tried P90X, T25, and probably a couple of others over the years and I just couldn't ever get into them, but Les Mills Combat is actually fun. It probably has something to do with my desire to get a heavy bag anyways.

Since I still have a couple of 5Ks already planned and committed to I skip one day of videos and do a nice 3-5 mile run.

I just finished week two of the combat workout and I think I've finally figured out the best way to work in my running without over working myself.

The schedule generally goes something like this;

Monday - Combat cardio
Tuesday - Combat HIIT strength
Wednesday - Combat cardio 2
Thursday - rest
Friday - Run
Saturday - Combat cardio
Sunday - rest \ stretch

This week went a whole lot better than the first, I've found a good pace and level of effort and I'm really enjoying the workouts. The cardio is generally lots of quick punches and kicks and the strength is lots of burpees, squats, and some weights.

I'm actually insanely excited about the changes I can already see in my body, not to mention how I feel. My arms and legs are quickly gaining definition. I've also noticed a huge change in how I feel when running, hills don't hurt as much and my endurance is generally gaining faster than just running.

Training for the Tower of Terror 10m (rundisney.com) begins in June so I plan on keeping this up until then.
